On March 24th, at the construction sites of the 1 million kilowatt wind power project in Turpan Shanshan and the 1 million kilowatt photovoltaic project in Shanshan East of the Tuha Oilfield, machines were roaring and workers were operating in an orderly manner. The construction of the two 1 million kilowatt new energy projects of the Tuha Oilfield has entered a fast lane.
Turpan is known as the "Wind Repository" and "China's Hottest Place", with natural conditions suitable for the development of wind power and photovoltaic power. The "Thirty Mile Wind Area" in Xiaocaohu has abundant wind resources throughout the year, with an average annual wind speed of over 8 meters per second and extreme gusts reaching up to level 14. It also has abundant sunlight, with over 3,200 hours of sunshine per year, making it a true "green energy treasure house".
As a key measure of China National Petroleum Corporation's new energy layout in Xinjiang, the two 1 million kilowatt new energy projects are the "highlight" of the Tuha Oilfield's transformation and development. They are scheduled to start in September and December 2025, respectively. Among them, the 1 million kilowatt wind power project in Shanshan is the first 1 million kilowatt wind power project built by China National Petroleum Corporation in Xinjiang. It will install 160 wind turbine units with a single-unit capacity of 6.25 megawatts, adopting industry-leading technology, featuring high power generation efficiency and strong stability. The 1 million kilowatt photovoltaic project in Shanshan East will use high-efficiency N-type photovoltaic modules, with about 1.9 million units planned to be installed, covering an area of approximately 29,000 mu. It will also build a 100 megawatt/200 megawatt-hour electrochemical energy storage system, and achieve full-process intelligent management through a smart operation and maintenance platform, which can significantly improve power generation efficiency and safety stability, effectively mitigate the volatility of new energy power generation, and promote the project's development towards high-end and intelligent directions.
To ensure the smooth progress and high-quality completion of the projects, the Tuha Oilfield has selected key personnel to form a project construction management department and a support and guarantee group, strengthening safety management and quality control. They have implemented a "map-based operation and node control" approach, breaking down construction tasks to the day and assigning responsibilities to individuals, ensuring that every task is well-deployed and implemented. At the same time, they have continuously optimized the construction process and fully adopted mechanized operations, effectively solving the problems of raw material supply, equipment transportation, and on-site construction, and accelerating the project's progress.
Since the "14th Five-Year Plan", the main production areas of the Tuha Oilfield have achieved full coverage of green electricity, with a cumulative self-generated green electricity of over 400 million kilowatt-hours. In 2025, the self-generated green electricity is expected to reach 157 million kilowatt-hours, accounting for nearly one-third of the oilfield's power consumption.
Currently, the construction of the two projects is proceeding as planned. After commissioning, the annual green power generation capacity will increase by over 3.3 billion kilowatt-hours, equivalent to an additional 700,000 tons of standard oil, and the annual reduction of carbon dioxide emissions will exceed 2.62 million tons. The oilfield will also transform from an oil and gas producer to an energy producer and carbon service provider.
